Ruth is a writer and campaigner, who has an MA in English Literature with a background in magazine journalism and communications. She also has experience working with children in the Special Educational Needs department of a state secondary school.
Ruth is a parent to two children attending primary and secondary schools. Since 2022, she has worked with a variety of staff in her son's primary school to improve air quality by building, installing and then maintaining air filters in halls and classrooms. She also supports other parents in their quest to do the same.
Her youngest son was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2019 which led to over three long years of cancer treatment. When he became 4 years old, this involved him attempting to attend in-person schooling whilst being immune-compromised and navigating the ongoing pandemic.
This experience has shaped Ruth's approach and goal of achieving safe, equitable education for all.
Nathalie has an academic and healthcare background, completing two science degrees; she graduated from King's College London with First-Class Honours.
Since early 2020, Nathalie has actively engaged in initiatives to enhance school air quality. Driven by her personal experience as a parent with children in infant, primary and secondary education, she has developed a special interest in air quality and nature.
Nathalie is a founding member of a UK children's charity and devoted three years to volunteering full-time for children and families harmed by SARS-CoV-2. Recognising the importance of awareness and prevention, Nathalie introduced advocacy and action for clean air in schools; an initiative that continues today.
Nathalie's experience working alongside the clinically vulnerable community has informed her advocacy while her contributions to the UK COVID Inquiry have cemented her commitment to safe, equitable education. Nathalie champions education staff and all children in their care.
Children embody the future of our nation; their voices must be heard. This is why The Safe Air Schools Foundation educates young people and supports and empowers them to share the message that indoor air quality matters, within their schools and beyond.
