The Safe Air Schools Foundation aims to improve the air quality inside educational settings for safe, inclusive, sustainable education for all children.
Our hope is that alongside pencils, lightbulbs and clean running water, clean air will one day be seen as an essential part of a healthy, enriching learning environment. We will:
Advocate for safe, equitable education for all children and school staff
Empower young people and staff to advocate for themselves inside education buildings
Educate on indoor air pollution, monitoring and mitigation that is backed by experts
Promote safe and cost-effective air filtration, appropriate to individual school settings
Campaign to update the Department for Education's ventilation standards to ensure they comply with those recommended by the British Council for Offices (2023) which advises keeping CO₂ below 800ppm
Lobby for a legal obligation that all new school buildings and existing structures (that can be retrofitted) should be upgraded to mechanical ventilation systems, ideally with heat recovery (MVHR)
Support the Clean Air (Human Rights) Bill
